Your network is your networth

I’ve been working alone for so long, I forgot this age old adage:
Your network is your net worth.
Except that this time, it is not a net worth of financial assets but hard knowledge, soft resources, social capital, ideas, open doors that one needs when relocating to a new place.
Without knowing the people here, hanging out with them, chatting with them, spending days with them on their family trips, there’s no way we can research and find out what we now know from them.
No fking way.
All the hidden cafes, family-friendly places to visit, day programme art studios to drop kids off, international schools to visit, pathways for kid’s education to take, blindspots non-locals like us might miss.
All those resources that comes only from living here and knowing people.
And we were damn lucky to be able to meet some of these super-connectors.
Your network is absolutely, your net worth.

@therealbrandonwilson Same here! New season, new reaching out of bubble

Oh yes, I hear this one all the time and believe it to be true in many aspects. Makes it tougher on those of us who tend toward introvert status, but I’m learning to stretch outside of my comfort zone.
