5 habits you need

So @therealbrandonwilson wrote about five hobbies you need:
- One to make you money
- One to keep you in shape
- One to keep you creative
- One to build knowledge
- One to evolve your mindset
I struggle to even have one hobby, but I got habits. Since hobbies are habits of passion, I’m going to go with five habits instead.
You need five hobbies habits:
-
One to make you money - I guess shipping on new and existing products count? I try to ship one new plugin every month. I commit code daily to one of my products. I build on Lifelog every weekend. I do marketing every week. All these feed the modest money-printing machine I have right now.
-
One to keep you in shape - Morning brisk walks and body weight exercises. Push-ups, pull-ups and dead-hangs 2-3 times a day. I’ve come to the point where if I don’t do these, I will suffer for the rest of the day. My neck will ache, my wrist will hurt. So I do it out of necessity now.
-
One to keep you creative - Building and coding is my creative habit. I do it at my freelance gig, I do it for my indie products, I do it for fun. It’s a joy to code, a privilege to build. I create, therefore I am.
-
One to build knowledge - I spend maybe 1-2h on Twitter every day, and I count that as a knowledge building habit. Because reading about nerds and geeks pushing the limits on indie hacking, entrepreneurship, coding and AI is super educational. That’s why, despite my occasional whining about it, I’m still there.
-
One to evolve
your mindset- Meditation, mindfulness practices, daily writing. These are my habits for living a reflective life, to help me grow and evolve, not just mindset, but everything else too, including spiritual.
So there, five habits you need. What’s yours?

Indeed. “Unheroic days can make for heroic decades.”

I made a note of the hobbies, then I realized they’re hobbies, not habits. I feel like you made the switch in the naming that aligns with my way of thinking about these hobbies, but I probably have to read Brandon’s post to better understand what he means by them (it’s in one of my open tabs 🤣)
@haideralmosawi Hah yes I made that switch to suit my lack of hobbies

“Hobbies are habits of passion.” Interesting observation. I was at a networking/personal development event last night, and the speaker, Michael Bernoff, pointed out that our lives are not our best days or worst days but the sum of all our average days. Habits play a significant role.
