Cortisol cleansing: One month on...

One month on of cortisol cleansing, some unexpected learnings:

  • Amazing I didn’t get withdrawals from less coffee. But perhaps it’s just a small change, like 1 less small cup a day.
  • Night sleep was unchanged but took more intentional power naps in the day, post-lunch. Really helps get me back feeling balanced.
  • Need to do better with screen time before bed. Or just cut it off altogether!
  • More self-care prioritized during the day, and on Sundays. I’m really liking the small daily things I do to take care of myself. It doesn’t have a huge impact, but little acts of kindness and self-compassion does add up and help me feel better about myself.
  • Trying to pack less in the schedule, like re-scheduling driving lessons, moving things around so that I don’t have to wake up at 4am or work late.
  • The most important learning: Practising this Huberman breathing exercise for real, and it really worked! I know these from meditation and yoga, but not sure why, tried it some times—perhaps not so seriously—and never felt it worked for me. But this time, I took the effort to practice it often, and for a longer period of time compared to before. The first minute or so, it relaxes the body a bit but the autonomic arousal levels spike back. But keep going more cycles over say, 30min, and you begin to feel the difference. There’s once, I suddenly felt sleepy after doing it extensively. Closed my eyes a bit, might have nodded off a bit, and then everything felt okay after I woke up. AMAZING. I can’t believed I took this long to try this…

Good progress all round!
Onwards.
