Driving lessons III: Feather paws

New writing hack: Writing life lessons from my driving lessons, about wins, about letting go.

Today, it’s about the pedals. Clutch, brake, gas. I finally nailed it yesterday, after struggling with getting the right amount of pressure on it.

Turned out, classic Jason problem. I was so tense during my first two lessons, there’s no way I could have got it. I was over-tensing my toe, feet, entire leg and everywhere in order to step on the pedals softly. You don’t hold on to an egg using 100% tensed up fingers and hands. You hold it gently, lightly. Open palms. Limp limbs. No grip. Feather paws.

That’s how I nailed it finally on third try yesterday. Feather paws.

It’s so me. To go into a challenging situation overly tense, over-gripping, over-reaching, trying way too hard. And believing that that’s the best way to tackle it. Being relaxed but focused, sitting back but upright and alert, is so underrated, and under-practiced.

I need more of that.

Feather paws, at life.
