Just made Directory Starters

Just made Directory Starters, a curated directory of all the directory software. Basically, apps, themes, templates that you can use to build info directories.

In the same theme as when I made SaaS Starters, this Directory Starters is a free tool, for marketing Lists Kit.

I’m loving how the whole series of dark mode directories turned out:

The idea is this – Lists Kit intersects several niches, and I could create a free tool in each niche that provides value to the audience while marketing Lists Kit:

  • SaaS boilerplates
  • Info directory
  • HTML templates
  • One-time payment software (#once)
  • #Nobuild
  • Single index.html
  • Coding basics (HTML, CSS, Javascript)
  • Vanilla stack
  • Web longevity

The interesting thing about listing out all these niches is how it shows Lists Kit isn’t just for 1 profile of customer. I mean, I knew that… I wrote this FAQ:

  • A seasoned developer who can code blindfolded but would rather use a template to save time.
  • A web designer who knows patches of HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and prefer using a template that he can edit instead of coming up with his own code.
  • A nocode maker who launched products before, don’t know how to code, but wouldn’t mind getting his hands dirty coding with some guidance and documentation.
  • Anyone who’s tired of maintaining simple websites built with modern JavaScript frameworks, and rather use a simple stack of plain vanilla HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • For small and simple info directories that don’t have lots of dynamic data, needs just 1 or a few pages, and only needs occasional updates (like monthly or yearly) that you don’t mind editing manually.

So I might actually have 5 different profiles of customers, and each would need a different angle for marketing. The different niche topics would serve the 5 different audiences.

So instead of 1 customer profile, I got 5. At least for a start. Until I got more data if I should narrow it down to 1 profile.

What do you think? Is 5 customer profiles marketing suicide, or workable?

I love the idea of using your own application to market itself.

As for the customer profiles, does it make sense to focus on skillsets? Just now when I looked at the Directory Starters site, that was the first time I felt like I understood what Lists Kit could be used for. Oh, you can create directories that would include your own product website.

That’s a use case I understand. What are other ways customers can make money using Lists Kit?

By the way, the TITLE element for the Lists Kit web site says “List Kit.”

@Winkletter Thanks! Oh haha you know, you’re not the first one to mention they understood what Lists Kit is about after seeing another free directory I made using it. Looks like my landing page is still not quite cutting it! 😅

Yeah the idea is that as more customers build businesses on Lists Kit, I’ll build a info directory (haha no surprises there) to showcase all the projects.

AHH thanks for spotting the error in the meta title! Will fix! Dang, hate that I can’t just use the singular.
