Getting my rhythm

I started looking for web dev freelancing on 3 Jul to ease my financial stress. Started two gigs a week later, and now it’s been almost two months. The first gig had since ended recently, but the second seems to be going good and strong, and I’m grateful for that.

Two months on, I’m settling into a nice rhythm with the freelancing. Now, a typical day, week, month:

  • 5.00am - Manage Carrd social media
  • 5.30am - Deep work on my daily commits/commitments, like writing, code commit
  • 8.00am - School run, daily workout
  • 9.00am - Freelance on 1st gig. But since this dropped, had more time for deep work on my own products
  • 11.00am - Lunch
  • 12.00noon - Freelancing for 2nd gig
  • 5.00pm - Manage Carrd social media
  • 6.00pm - Reply and engage on Telegram, X, etc
  • 7.00pm - Dinner
  • 8.00pm - Plan ahead for the next day
  • Weekend mornings - Building side projects like Lifelog
  • Monthly - Conduct 2 design thinking training workshops per month

So I’m actually managing 3-4 jobs on a day-to-day basis. It’s a tough juggle. Forces me to really focus. Prioritize what truly matters.

That’s why I had to tell myself to give up on shipping a new product, because there’s hardly any time for it when I started freelancing. But I also said when I don’t need to give up forever. I can restart once I hit these conditions:

  • Secure 1-2 long term gigs for software dev freelancing
  • Secure enough training workshops (1-2 per month at least) to last the year, till early next year
  • Bonus is if I can land a consultancy gig (but bandwidth)
  • Keep growing Carrd plugins, Lifelog, Lists Kit

Which had happened! I got one good long term gig now. I got 2 training workshops per month scheduled till Jan 2025. There might be 1 or 2 consultancy gigs coming up, but nothing confirmed. And this month I restarted shipping on my Carrd plugins, Lifelog and continued with Lists Kit.

So by right I am ready…

Daily workout at the nearby park:

  • Brisk walk for 15-20min
  • Pull-ups 10 x 2 sets
  • Dead hangs 10s x 2
  • Squats x 20
  • Crunches x 30
  • Push ups x30
  • Stairs up to 7th floor
  • Stretch
