Travelling is a skill

Re-reading this old post about how travel felt different got me thinking:

Travel used to be all about fun and adventure. Now, it’s logistics and work mostly. Occasional moments of connection - precious nonetheless, wouldn’t trade it for anything else. But travel ain’t the same no more. Worse is: The workload before and after to make up for lost freelance hours is punishing. Not fun. My daily routine feels relaxed by comparison.

But compared to the last time I felt exhausted after a trip, and all travelled out, I managed it way better this time. Not yawning all the time. Not stressed out every morning and night from needing to work. I knew what to expect travelling as a young family, had prepped and planned weeks beforehand, and anticipated tasks/challenges ahead of time. So it felt less hectic, and there’s more space for enjoyment and being present.

So I dunno… maybe this is a skill? I learned how to solo travel over the years. Travelling with kids, as a family, is a whole new and different ball game altogether, and maybe with enough trips, I can level up to the point where I can juggle leading the trip and enjoying well.

I started off writing this post feeling tired and low, tbh. But reflecting and reframing, helped.

At least there’s something I can do now to make things better the next time!

This is why I write.
