February 2024 wrap-up

My intention for Feb was to warm up for March, but seems like I got straight into the race without it. At some point in the past 2 weeks I was working on 4 things at once, not including indie hacking, marketing, writing. The best plans are right out of the window the moment Life punches you in the face.

But I think I took the beating pretty well, even if I’m wiped out every day.

Mar is looking to be just as crazy a pace as Feb, and I’m intentionally trying not to brace myself for it. Just do the thing, don’t overthink.

I suspect that’s the key to not over-worrying.

FEBRUARY 2024 METRICS

– Revenue:

• Current MRR: $137
• One-off revenue: $1513
• Total revenue: $1650
• Total costs = $385
• Total profit: $1265
• Profit margin: 76.6%
   

– Plugins For Carrd

• Total revenue: $1344.90
• Sold 20 plugins at $480 revenue. Sold 6 mobile navbars, 2 testimonial sliders, 6 mega navbars, 4 listing with filters, 1 randomizer, 1 dark mode pro.
• $864.90 in affiliate income from Carrd. Affiliate income = Referral ($805.50) and Seller ($59.40) program. Big jump this month in referrals. What’s going on?
• Realised I TRIPLED my revenue for my plugins AGAIN. Maybe things ain’t so bad…
• Officially launched redirect plugin on 2 channels, more to come over the next week.
• Reinvested $92 revenue back into product in sponsorship ads.
• Telegram Carrd group at 100 members.
• Substack subscribers at 151.
   

– Outsprint design consultancy

• LinkedIn metrics: 2026 followers, 18647 impressions + 145 engagements (based on past 28 days), 380 profile views (based on past 90 days), 57 search appearances.
• Kicked off 1 new coaching project worth S$9k with non-profit client.
• Conducted and completed 2 design thinking training workshops with educational institute - 1 x 1-day virtual workshop, and another 2-day in-person workshop. S$2.4k fees.
• Kicked off design thinking workshops worth $6k in fees with DSG for a gov ministry.
• Completing a n=15 user recruitment gig for gov agency - $6k fees to come in Mar.
• TOTAL runway extended by about $23k!
• Went through 3 rounds of virtual interviews for Lead/Senior Lead, User Insights & Service Design, SGN, EDB Singapore. All interviews are done! Now just waiting to see if they will offer.
   

– Lifelog

• MRR at $137/month.
• +$9 MRR to Lifelog. Thanks so much @phaidenbauer!
• Got a 3rd $10 subscription revenue but the user never used the site, so I’m bracing for the cancellation.
• 1 new Lifelog trial sign-ups this month. Welcome @hu9osaez!
• Completed and launched dark mode on both writing editors.
• Fixing bug for meta description.
• Deployed Kayla bot to notify on Telegram when ANY user publishes a post. Will review after 1 month to see if it creates too much noise.
• Lifelog chat group at 28 members.
   

– Indie solopreneur build in public journey

• Hit 60 days of #commit365 challenge! The Commit365 accountability chat group on Telegram. is also at 77 members.
• Hit 10k followers!
• Twitter stats for Feb vs Jan:
  • Followers: 10429 vs 9883
  • Tweet impressions: 1.43M vs 750k (cos of viral tweet)
• Out of frustration, made bold declaration and plans for $10k monthly revenue!
• Decided I also need to start a new habit of 1 marketing commit per day.
• Started an accountability chat with @ikoichi for our $10k/m goals.
   

– Lists Kit

• Did a Lists Kit reset and went back to basics. Deleted half my landing page to keep things straightforward and direct. Done with PAS framework or fancy conversion copy sh*t, until I figure out my ideal customer profile.
• Got 2 sales ($169)!
• Created Envato marketplace account and profile.
• Added more quota-based scarcity deals.
• Made 2 new directories – Commit365 and Directory Starters directory using Lists Kit boilerplate, for marketing.
• Reinvested money from my first 2 sales and bought Chris Osborne’s Profitable Communities course on Gumroad (US$163.50), to learn from him and the community about directories.
• Submitted Lists Kit to the Pay Once Software Directory.
• Switched on tax inclusive setting for Payhip after discussing with other indie folks about same feature just released by Lemon Squeezy - the idea is that for larger ticket items like one time purchases, the tax can be substantial and the surprise can turn buyers off. So by absorbing it, maybe we can convert more customers even if at less profit…
